I’m even going to be okay. If Cas is dead. If he died in Purgatory. And we only have him in flashback. As Dean remembering him.
Because - TRAGEDY. KINK. MINE. BEAUTIFUL.
Because how much potential for Dean to mourn… and he’ll be all clammed up about it with Sam… he’ll say ‘I’m fine, Sam, leave it.’ But then he’ll see, IDK, a flower or something, and WE’LL see the flashback to Cas plucking a flower in Purgatory and rambling at Dean about it, like how bees pollinate flowers and it’s a miracle or whatever, and Dean will be all dismissive… but when Cas throws the flower down as they keep walking Dean will secretly pick it up, and stuff it in his pocket… and then we’ll flashforward, and Dean will pull the same flower out of his pocket, all squished but preserved, and he’ll look at it with a sad, fond smile… and we’ll know something FUCKING SERIOUS happened between them… (or something like that but not so feminine)
And ALL SEASON will be like that. Re-living happy memories with Dean, finding out how his and Cas’ relationship bloomed, but all the while knowing it’s going to end tragic. Which will make the happy times that much more poignant, that much more gut-wrenching and amazing. Because we’ll know that they mean EVERYTHING to Dean. And it will FINALLY be clear how important Cas is/was to him. How much he valued him.
And we’ll all cry like babies when Cas’ death scene finally happens. Because we’ve been waiting and waiting, and it’s been built up to and built up to, so when it happens it will almost be a RELIEF, or at least a RELEASE. And it will be exactly the death he deserves. The kind Ellen and Jo and Gabriel and Bobby got. It will be BEAUTIFUL. And Dean will be with him and holding on to him and Cas will whisper something in his ear and Dean will say ‘I know’ and…
(and the tragedgy will be softened a little by the promise of fix-it fic where Cas survives someone)
