Ok guys. I said this at the time but everyone seemed to think I was nuts but -

THIS IS A REFERENCE TO MISHA, RIGHT?

It’s a sparkly, my little pony style unicorn. And Misha has that whole ‘my little pony’ - ‘unicorn’ connection, right? And right after cutting it off, Dean’s starts singing ‘all out of love.’ Which is, ostensibly, about the Impala being gone, but was surely intended to be taken as a jokey and indirect reference to Dean being upset CAS is gone.

And AND, at the end of the episode, when Dean pops the boot of the car open, there’s been a lot of talk about something that looks a lot like the trenchcoat lurking inside there (and I think it’s fair to assume that’s canon since 7.17, even if, technically, it WASN’T the coat in that shot) but what no one mentions is that THE CRAPPY SPARKLY UNICORN IS ALSO THERE, placed carefully next to the maybe!coat.

Not that I think Dean would have placed it there cos it reminds him of Cas, because Cas has no connections to ponies/unicorns, BUT as a META reference it makes sense, y/n? It’s the production staff telling us ‘no, we haven’t forgotten Misha, he is still a presence in this show, see?’ Cas/Misha may have been cruelly thrown aside, and Dean might seem angry with Cas, but see - Dean has kept the trenchcoat and we are keeping the memory of Misha alive.

IDK. I just like to to think it was a kind of jokey ‘in memory of’ and a foreshadowing for Misha’s return :p
